Ranked-choice tabulator

Paste ballots, then step through the rounds on the projector. Striped segments are votes that transferred from an eliminated option.

Ballots

Separate choices with commas, “>”, or tabs. Add “x4” at the end of a line to count it four times. A pasted Google Sheet with a header row also works (see below).

Collecting ballots with a Google Form
  1. Make a form with one “Multiple choice grid” question. Rows: 1st choice, 2nd choice, 3rd choice… Columns: your options. Turn on “Require a response in each row” off, and “Limit to one response per column” on.
  2. Open the linked Sheet, select every response column (header row included), copy.
  3. Paste into the Ballots box. The header row and the Timestamp column are ignored automatically.

A grid the other way round (rows = options, columns = rank numbers) is also recognized.

Add at least two options and a few ballots, then press Tally. “Load sample” fills in a food-truck vote where the plurality leader loses.
